The small community of Haggerston has been the site of significant art spaces and projects in recent decades.
Currently, you can find Playhouse East on Kingsland Rd near the Haggerston Station. The HQ of Graeae Theatre Company is also on Kingsland Rd.
Turning Earth Ceramics are on Whiston Rd, both the studio and the training space. The Museum of the Home hosts various art exhibitions and events. Seventeen Gallery is in Acton Mews and there are many other galleries nearby including Have a Butchers, Hundred Years gallery and music space, and Final Hot Desert. Unit 5 is just behind Haggerston Par. Miłość Gallery is also near Haggerston Station. And the redoubtable, internationally-celebrated Flowers Gallery has its original Hackney branch in Haggerston.
Artist Nazir Tanbouli created The King's Land mural project on the site of the condemned Kingsland Estate in Haggerston. Covering all of the derelict buildings in hand-drawn murals, the artist crafted the most extensive single-artist mural project ever in the UK. Filmmaker Gillian McIver made the documentary Taking Over the King's Land about the project, and the two artists ran the Studio 75 Gallery.
